A Blind Determination

Motivation and determination are sometimes the only hope when a young one is struggling in the early years of his career. Most youngsters, after not having enough resources or references for a particular job or business, motivate themselves by just keeping on working. This determination is considered one of the most valuable steps towards a positive attitude. There is no doubt in this that just to keep on working with the same devotion and zeal can open the close doors, but there are some realities that must be considered while putting your effort into any work.

Exposure to such realities is necessary, as it will enable youngsters to avoid the late career shocks. Naturally, we most of the time create a very stubborn and focused mindset that, irrespective of the ground reality, just wants to dive into the situation. You can take the example of a job where only a few candidates are required per year, and there are almost five thousand annual graduates in the field. Now, someone must be aware of the ground reality despite of their self motivation and determination. They must be aware of the possibility of rejection that may comes to their way while their journey towards their destination.

Determination is a good thing, but the attitude of ignoring all the realities and just focusing on hard work is also ignorance. One must be aware of the rest of the options he has in case of rejection. As a famous saying goes, “Believe in the best and prepare for the worst.” Sadly, such preparation is absent from our youngsters, and they mostly fall into the bubble of illusions.

Like, when we were in the twelfth grade, our teachers created an illusion in our minds that we would have plenty of jobs leading to better houses, family status, and pay ranges. We were not told about the consequences we would face. So, we studied with the same illusion and mindset. When we come to the practical field of finding jobs, we find that every field, irrespective of its domain, requires almost five years of struggle and sacrifice. We have to work for low wages till we have maximum experience to get a valuable job. When such individuals with a previous illusion face struggling situations, some of them may get discouraged, resulting in the downfall of a genius mind. There is also a perspective that such motivation was necessary at that time to keep our interest, but I think training students to be prepared for reality is comparatively a better approach than just motivating them with idealistic examples.

If we train our students to be prepared for the worst, then they will be less reactive to struggling situations. They will have a balance in reality and motivation, ensuring they are putting the right efforts in the right direction. Sadly, it’s seen that many private institutions create illusions of the scope of certain fields just to attract students, and their ultimate goal is their business. This not only detracts from a young individual but also affect multiple families. This calls for the importance of effective career counselling for students leading to better professional choices.
