The world is busy, and we see many different happenings daily with different outcomes. We can’t control the whole world, and a similar is the case for happenings. So, we have to bear and listen, but we can at least form an opinion about the happenings around us. The opinion is truly based on the extent of our understanding and any previous experience we have related to the issue for whom we are forming an opinion. Opinions are not necessarily to be considered as final or authentic. These are just drawn observations of the present happenings related to a problem.
Although opinion has nothing to do with age and experience, but still opinion is still linked with age and exposure to certain circumstances. We can say an adult can develop an opinion based on more experience as compared to a child. This is the max link, according to my understanding. So, if we take this factor of age as a significant factor, we can classify opinions as mature and immature ones, but still their value can’t be underestimated.
While sometimes our opinions are drawn instantly from a single situation. Like, I visited a coffee shop during the peak hours, and I found the coffee was delivered late. An instant opinion suddenly knocked on the door of my mind, and I marked the company’s customer service as poor due to late delivery. Here, I have an opinion about a specific coffee shop, but I think I may have been too quick while forming the opinion. I have to consider some factors for the delay, like the peak hours, a large number of customers, and a sudden rush of customers. These are the underlying factors that were necessary for me to consider while forming an opinion.
Continuing the similar example, we can understand how the sense of emotional control plays a role in forming a legitimate and unbiased opinion. I was fed up and somehow in my mind with the view that I am being ignored. Although I wasn’t ignored, waiting was the only option left in the coffee shop. So, as I was emotionally imbalanced, the situation quickly triggered my anger and resulted in forming an opinion with only limited experience and poor emotional stability.
Now, come to another type of opinion that is formed. These opinions are generally drawn over broad topics, but somehow these opinions become victims of our limited think tank. For example, if we have to form an opinion about corruption in a society, what things do we consider while forming an opinion?
Let’s discuss two scenarios. One is an opinion drawn by a person who believes in fairness and equality and follows the same for himself. If he is asked to think about bribes, cashbacks and other illegal benefits, he will truly say, No, it’s not possible, and I can’t even imagine someone doing so.
The second scenario, a person who was asked to give 5 millions bribe for a certain position for which he was qualified and confident that he would be among the selected ones. If such a person is asked for an opinion on corruption in society, he will say, Nothing is possible without money.
What do you think? Both opinions are true?
Yes, both are true, but based on the circumstances and situations through which both persons have undergone. Neither of these opinions is true if we have to draw an opinion on the overall position of corruption in a society. There are many people who truly believe in fairness and don’t misuse their powers. Similarly, there are many example, where people can demand millions from you just for a single signature.
So, we have to broaden our circle of thoughts when we have to draw an overall opinion regarding any issue. Limited circle and event-based thoughts often result in forming opinions that are not true every time. When someone intends to form an opinion, he has to consider all the possibilities and be on the level of all the people residing in a particular society or community. Without putting onself in other’s shoe, it’s not possible to draw an opinion.
